Listening to The Bird and the Bee's new album "Interpreting the Masters, Vol. 1 (A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates). It's super smiley and awesome. Who doesn't love Hall and Oates? Especially with Inara George's voice? It's inspiring me to build my Hall and Oates collection too. It's never too early to practice for the next trip the the karaoke bar... right?
My dancy shoulders are unstoppable right now. I'm trying to blog and I can barely keep myself seated! "I-I---I I'll do anything that you want me too.... I'll do almost anything that you want me too... But I can't go for that, nooo, no can do..."
.... Ok. So I went to the American Beauty Show today. It was like a dream come true, I swear. An entire convention center filled with loud music, products, tools, runway shows, and stylists. I love this world! I was born for this, I swear. I could have spent all day there, if it weren't for the stupid gyno appt I had in the afternoon... yuck. WTF? Why don't men have to go to a doctor once a year to have their pee hole stretched open and scraped out?? It really doesn't seem very fair. I am by NO means a feminist... at all. But I feel like, COME ON! I have to take BC pills, have a craptastic week once a month, see the gyno, birth children, AND deal with the post sex... situation. Shut up, you know what I'm talking about. What do men have to do? Show up, and make sure it works. Sheesh.
Ok, I digress, the beauty show was awesome today. If we create our own heaven, then that would be mine. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a product whore, and to be surrounded by super cool and super cheap awesome products.... FUCK! It's like a wet dream.
I walked out with 6 new OPI polishes, 2 Essie products (a base coat and a matte top coat) , 3 new makeup brushes, 8 eye pencils, 1 eyeshadow, and 1 teasing brush. The real feat was that I didn't buy any lip gloss...
Time for a Hot Toddy.

Saturday Play by Play.
My weekends are weird now, I'm still getting used to having Sunday and Monday off. It's pretty awesome to have Monday off, but I'm still getting used to giving up my Saturdays. This past Saturday was great though (despite the freezing cold snow). My learning leader Hollee showed our class some crazy awesome runway hair techniques and then she gave me a super rockin' style too. I couldn't waste it inside, I had to go out.
5:30pm - Fabian, Gia, Claudia, and I venture out into the snow for our weekly after school special/happy hour. $3 PBR pints + tons of inappropriate conversation = hugely successful happy hour.
7:00pm - Home, teasing & spraying the wilting rocker hair. Girlfriends are MIA/still hungover from Friday night...
8:45pm - Tommy is on his way over, this will surely be a hilariously fun night.
9:30pm - Jefferson Tap for beer and food... And a painfully embarrassing performance by some awkward douche bag try to do sexy dances for the whole bar. Not good.
10:45pm - Testing out the Paul Mitchell Spray Wax on Tommy's hair. Success!! It's a super awesome product!
11:00 - In a taxi to Lumen. Cabbie: "So, are you kids married?" Tommy & I: "No! No no no nooooo" Cabbie: "What? Dude, are you gonna let her get away?? If I was you, I would never let her get away, Damn!" etc... YIKES, get me out of this cab!
11:10 - Lumen = Gia being a rockstar behind the bar, shots, cocktails, dancing, Awesometown! I definitely professed my friend-love to Gia AND danced on an elevated surface after shot #2.
1:00 - We gotta do some Karaoke.
1:30 - BLUE FROG!!! Man, I love that place. (Video below: the guy at the end who screams "Take your top off!!" was definitely gay and I spent the next 20 minutes trying to convince him to come out of the closet...didn't work)
3:00 - Pizza... mmmmm
Successful Saturday night.

I kind of love this tattoo. I've been doing research getting ideas for my first ink. I love the idea of getting just text. Maybe I'll get 2 eventually, one of them needs to have something to do with knitting I think. I'm thinking of something incorporating knitting needles and cutting shears on my wrist. I won't do that one until I finish school though. The other will be text on my ribs. Currently thinking of quoting the Whitman poem "Pioneers! O Pioneers!"

Ted.
Ted has requested that I use his real name. Apparently, he wants to become some kind of mini blog-ebrity. I don't know how he expects that will happen because I'm pretty sure the only people reading this are my siblings and a couple of good friends... and obviously him too. Plus, It's kind of "my thing" to use the name disguise. I actually have a hilarious time coming up with them. I didn't really try that hard with Ted's name though, and since I like his real name better, I'll comply.
Lady and gentleman.... meet Ted- I mean Tom/TOMMY/TDawg/Tom-inator/TC.

#2
2nd date with Ted last night. Serious amounts of awesome. Bin 36 for dinner, Piece to watch live-band karaoke, then Blue Frog for regular karaoke. I don't think I'll ever get tired of karaoke. I didn't get to hit any of my classics, but Ted and I did a pretty phenomenal rendition of "Cruisin" that made a group of girls in front go crazy. "KATY PERRY!! ZOOEY DESCHANEL!!! OMG IT'S 500 DAYS OF SUMMER!!! 500 DAYS OF SUMMER!! ZOOEY DESCHANEL KISS! KISS! KISS!" Apparently, my brown hair, bangs, and aqua bow, along with Ted's t-shirt & cardigan look convinced her that we were JUST like the couple in 500 Days of Summer. Man I hope not, it didn't really work out well for them.

1st Week
I'm in love. With hair. I just finished my first week at the Paul Mitchell school and I loved every minute of it. Just in the last 3 days, we learned:
Basics - Cranium and facial bone structure, Hair structure, texture, porosity, density, etc.
Draping for wet, chemical, and dry services
Basic parting (not as easy as it sounds)
Classic French braids
Inside out French braids
Fishtail braids
Corn rows
Pin Curls
Barrel Curls
Shampooing
Mini Scalp massage
Leafing & Beveling Blow dry
I know you don't care, but this will help me keep a record of the things we learn. It goes so fast that I'm afraid I'll forget.
I wasn't sure how I'd feel about doing hair before I started. I've never actually done it before (other than little cuts here and there to friends), but I get so excited to learn silly things like shampooing and corn rows! I think I'm definitely in the right place. The people in the school are so awesome and my class is full of super cool people. I feel so lucky to have gotten myself here to follow this dream.
Now I'm off to go for a quick run and get ready for my 2nd date with "Ted"!! Pizza, beer, and live-band karaoke... can it really get any better than that??

Kira.
Yesterday was such a cool and strange day. Afternoon hockey & beer at Jefferson Tap with Amy. I love watching sports in a crowded sports bar when everyone is watching the same game. It was so exciting! When the US scored that second goal, the entire bar erupted in excitement. It was awesome, and hanging out with Amy is always hilarious and fun.
After a few beers though, I still had to get ready for a date that I had last night. I know I know, I'm not technically supposed to be dating until the Fall, but I refuse to throw away an opportunity to have a cocktail and meet someone new and cool. So, I got ready and jumped in a taxi heading to the California Clipper in Wicker Park. I arrived 10 minutes late (oops), walked up to the bar and... the door was locked. It was closed and empty. My date (We'll call him Ted), had already texted me that he was sitting at a table in the bar... Huh? Wait, where is Ted? Major miscommunication. Ted was at Violet Hour... Oops. Well, no problem, I'll just hop in another cab and head over there. Wrong. The California Clipper happens to be on one of the emptiest street corners I've seen in Chicago. The only other establishment was a coffee shop across the street. Thank goodness they were still open. So I walked in there and waited for a cab to go by. 10 minutes later, no cabs... So I called a couple of companies who claimed to be sending someone over. Nope. 20 minutes later, the coffee shop was closing and a girl walked out the door past me. I ran after her and said "Hey! Do you live around her? Where the hell can I find a taxi??" She asked me where I was going.
"Um... Damen and Milwaukee."
"I'll just give you a ride."
This random and awesome girl (named Kira) just offered to give a stranger a ride. She looked totally normal, so I jumped in her car and off we went. I couldn't believe it. Only in the midwest, I swear. So on this 10 min car ride, we basically told our life stories and quickly got to know each other. Kira was awesome! I just wish I would have gotten her number so we could hang out again. Kira! If you're out there, send me your number!
Finally, I showed up at the Violet Hour where Ted was patiently waiting and proceeded to have the best first date I've ever had. :)
The end.
